Getting involved

The AVS Parent and Family Group (PFG) supports AVS through teacher appreciation activities, volunteer shifts, and the occasional fundraiser. There is no signup process for joining the PFG, and there are no dues – if you have a kid at AVS, you’re automatically a member!

AVS suggests that every parent volunteer with our school community in some way. Volunteering is a great way to get to know other families as well as to get a sense for what’s going on at school. Here are some of the main areas where you can lend a hand:

School events

Help organize a child-centered event like the Fall Harvest Festival, Book Week and the Body Break Challenge – or sign up to staff one of these events

Camping

Join the Camping Committee and help plan fun trips

Campus beautification

Lend some muscle to occasional construction and painting projects, graffiti removal, reorganization, and garden tending

Community Service

Pitch in on a project that gives back to the Bay Area

Parent socials

Help plan parent gatherings like the Fall Mingle, the Gala, or a smaller grade-level event

Teacher appreciation

Show teachers some love by signing up to be a Room Parent, Library Fairy, Yearbook Steward, or Teacher Appreciation Elf

Other ways to get involved

Join the AVS Board of Trustees or join a Board committee like Site or Development. The Board provides long-term strategic planning and oversight for the school.
