Athletics

Athletics at AVS Lower School
At Alta Vista School, athletics are an essential part of the educational journey. Our Lower School program focuses on effort, perseverance, and joy in play. Every student is welcome to participate—there are no tryouts or cuts—so all children have the chance to experience the benefits of teamwork and competition.
Through sports, students practice core values such as respect, sportsmanship, dedication, and accountability. They gain confidence in their physical abilities, develop individual skills, and learn the importance of collaboration and commitment. A variety of athletic activities ensures that every student can discover a sport that inspires them and supports their growth.
Athletics at AVS Middle School
Athletics continue to play a vital role in the Middle School experience and are included in tuition. In addition to a strong physical education curriculum, students can participate in an inclusive after-school sports program where everyone is encouraged to join—no cuts, no barriers.
AVS Middle School proudly competes in the San Francisco Independent Athletic League (SFIAL), with coed volleyball in the fall, boys’ and girls’ basketball in the winter, and coed futsal and track and field in the spring. Competing with other local schools fosters spirited play, strengthens community, and gives students the opportunity to refine skills, build resilience, and grow as teammates.
