Athletics
Our Physical Education Program is an important part of the middle school program. Students participate in a variety of team building activities, individual activities and also learn about health. The program consists of aerobic running, jump roping, dancing (line dancing and Merengue), soccer, gymnastics (tumbling), team handball (fireball), volleyball, football, baseball, softball, field hockey, and basketball.
The goals of this program are to develop and improve the motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities; apply movement concepts, principles, and strategies to the learning and performance of physical activities; assess and maintain a level of physical fitness to improve overall physical health and well-being.
AVS also offers middle school sports teams for coed volleyball, boys and girls basketball and futsal. AVS competes against local middle schools as part of the San Francisco Independent Athletic League.
