Seeing the World in a New Light: A Community Meeting on Color Vision
Noa Mendelevitch

At AVS, our Community Meetings are an opportunity to come together, share knowledge, and celebrate the incredible talents within our community. Last Monday was no exception, as AVS parent and data scientist Lauren Chircus, alongside their daughter Sasha, delivered an engaging and insightful presentation on Color Vision.

The dynamic duo began by exploring the fascinating fundamentals of how we see. They covered the color spectrum, delving into the science behind cones and rods—the specialized cells in our eyes that process light and color—and explained how vision varies across different species.

The presentation took an interactive turn when Sasha helped lead a hands-on color vision test featuring none other than our Head of School, Rob! This activity offered a fun, firsthand look at how each of us perceives the world a little differently.

Lauren and Sasha’s engaging talk left everyone inspired and a bit more curious about the science of sight. It was a perfect reminder of the diversity in how we all experience the world around us.

Thank you, Lauren and Sasha, for sharing your expertise and making learning about color vision such a memorable experience for the AVS community!
