Introducing Flex Time at AVS Middle School!

Last week we introduced a new activity called Flex Time. Once or twice a month, on Wednesdays during community time before lunch, students can participate in various offerings including affinity groups, community service, and academic "cafés."

Revisiting last year's successful affinity spaces, Profe Madison and Maestro Ross offered the Mosaic Students of Color group, and Mr. R.K. led the Gender Sexuality Alliance (GSA). In addition, Dr. R began a Jewish Affinity Group for students who identify religiously and/or culturally with their Jewish identity. Isla and Angela also facilitated a group of students interested in community service. Academic Cafés offer students the opportunity to get extra help, finish work or spend more time in a subject of interest. Students sign up for groups and may choose to try different options in subsequent Flex Time meetings.

We're looking forward to engaging activities, and rich discussion, as we continue to build affinity and community at the Middle School!
