Grandparent and Special Friend Day is almost here!
Grandparent and Special Friend Day is almost here!
We are eagerly anticipating the presence of over 170 guests on Friday, February 16th!
As part of the day's arrangements, please note that guests visiting Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Grade classrooms may need to negotiate stairs. However, the JK and 5th-grade classrooms are more conveniently accessible. For guests with mobility challenges, kindly ensure they are informed and well-prepared.
Hurry! Email Advancement with any late sign-up requests; this is your final opportunity.
Additionally, we still require enthusiastic parent volunteers. Sign up here to contribute to making this day truly memorable.

GPSF DAY FAQs:
Q1: What's the best approach when there's one guest and two (or more) students? Alternatively, did you want your guests to visit all your students' classrooms?
A1: Please review the schedule above. We suggest assigning one guest to accompany each child throughout the day. If you are a single guest with multiple children, we recommend you accompany the youngest child in the family during the classroom visit. You will be able to see all students perform at the beginning of the day.
Q2: Is there parking available for guests?
A2: Guests may park in the neighborhood surrounding the school. We highly suggest families consider supporting their guests by dropping them off and picking them up in the Wayland White Zone along with their aviator(s) . The parking lot is used for recess during the day and will not be available for guest parking.
Our address is 450 Somerset St., San Francisco, CA 94134. Please note that this event takes place on the Lower School Campus in the Portola neighborhood, not the Middle School Campus in the Mission.
Q3: What are the dismissal arrangements for GPSF Day?
A3: If a guest has been signed up to dismiss their student/s, they may take their student/s upon dismissal. If a guest has not been signed up to dismiss, then the student/s will be dismissed as usual to the Wayland white zone for carline or walk up pickup by their parents/guardians.
Q4: Is there after-school programming on Grandparent & Special Friend Day (Friday, February 16)?
A4: No. There will be no BookEnds or childcare available on this day. All students must be picked up at 11:30 am by either a parent or their Grandparent & Special Friend Day guest. Students will only be released to Grandparents and Special Friends if they have been approved for dismissal by a parent.
Q5: Can AVS parents volunteer to support this annual tradition?
A5: Yes! We're on the lookout for two parent volunteers in each classroom and extra hands for breakfast, refreshments, transitions, and dismissal. You won't be assigned to your student's classroom, but we would love your support! Sign up here.
Please be aware that guests visiting Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Grade classrooms will need to negotiate stairs. However, the JK and 5th-grade classrooms are more easily accessible. If your guests have mobility challenges, kindly ensure that they are aware and adequately prepared.
If you still have unanswered questions, or need support, please email Advancement.
We look forward to sharing this special day with your loved ones!
Warmest regards,
Director of Advancement
