These Hands Make Magic: Celebrating Creativity on International Dot Day
Atreyee Ghosh

Last month, our Lower School community came together to celebrate International Dot Day—which falls on September 15—with a vibrant, collaborative mixed-media project highlighting creativity and self-expression. Every student from JK through 5th grade contributed, and many faculty and staff joined in the fun as well.

Titled “These Hands Make Magic,” the project invited participants to trace, draw, and cut contour drawings of their hands using painted papers. Each hand was then decorated with colorful dots using a variety of materials—including dot markers, colored pencils, crayons, oil pastels, markers, acrylic paints, and cut paper—resulting in a dazzling display of individual creativity and collective artistry.

Now proudly displayed in the Community Room, the finished piece radiates color and imagination, serving as a joyful reminder of what we can create together. The project perfectly captures the spirit of International Dot Day: making a mark, taking creative risks, and celebrating the magic of imagination.
