AVS Community Service
Urban Angels SF Gift Drive
The AVS Community Service group would like to thank all who participated in our bake sales at the Lower and Middle Schools! The community raised nearly $2,500 to purchase gifts for families served by nonprofit organization Urban Angels SF. In their words, Urban Angels SF "work[s] to sustain the unhoused of San Francisco, while they are in transition from living on the streets to safe and permanent housing. Our volunteers deliver food, water, clothing, and supplies, and help our guests access essential services. We also support homeless children with donations of school supplies and toys." Urban Angels SF recently added more tutoring resources to support children's education.
In addition to the bake sales, AVS families picked out gifts for children served at the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation's shelter. Lower school students also participated in card mailing activities on their campus. On Monday, December 16, aviators and their families made cards for children served by Urban Angels SF to accompany the gifts.
Supporting GLIDE in the Tenderloin
Over the past month, AVS Middle School students had the incredible opportunity to serve lunches on three occasions to the GLIDE community in the Tenderloin. GLIDE, a nationally recognized center for social justice, is dedicated to addressing systemic injustices, providing pathways out of poverty and crisis, and transforming lives. Each day, students helped serve over 500 lunches, engaging directly with individuals and assisting in preparing food trays for distribution.
The experience was both meaningful and enjoyable for the students, who enthusiastically shared their reflections about the impact of their interactions and contributions. It was a rewarding initiative that resonated deeply with everyone involved. Stay tuned for more opportunities to give back in 2025!
