Annual Fund
The AVS Annual Fund is the cornerstone of AVS’s yearly fundraising efforts. A gift to the AVS Annual Fund provides opportunities for learning and discovery, as well as the ability to be responsive to emerging opportunities and challenges.
The Annual Fund kicks off in September and runs through December each year to support the people and programs that make AVS so special:
- Attracting and retaining the finest faculty and staff
- Professional development
- New curriculum initiatives
- Technology upgrades
- Supplies for the library, classrooms, athletics, and the arts
- Small classes in which every student is known and appreciated for their gifts and talents.
Gifts are necessary because tuition doesn’t cover all the opportunities we want our students and staff to receive.
Your Annual Fund gift supports every aspect of the AVS experience. It provides opportunities for learning and discovery, as well as the ability to be responsive to emerging opportunities and challenges. It allows AVS to be an extraordinary place of education, collaboration, and innovation for students today and in years to come.

I’m a current parent. Why is it important that I give to the school’s fundraising efforts?
Because the AVS Annual Fund supports current programs, every family is encouraged to contribute at whatever level they are able. Each year we strive for 100% parent participation. We also expect 100% participation from faculty, administration, staff, and trustees.
If independent schools were run in a more businesslike way, couldn’t they avoid asking for gifts?
A for-profit business, whose mission is to make money, is not an appropriate model for a school, whose mission is to provide students with the best education. By nature, high-quality schools are labor-intensive and people-oriented; salaries and benefits make up about 78% of AVS’s annual budget. All of your tuition dollars and gifts go directly to support our educational mission.
What is a matching gift?
Many companies will match charitable contributions by their employees, so that your gift may be worth double or sometimes even triple its original amount. By asking your company to match your gift, you can maximize the amount of your donation while your company helps to support a worthy cause. Many AVS parents work for matching gift companies – please check with your human resources department to see if they will match your gift.
