Alta Vista School places a high priority on fostering socioeconomic diversity among our students, and we are committed to building a community of families who share common values, irrespective of financial means.
Alta Vista tuition is inclusive. With no added fees, tuition covers:
The tuition for the 2026-27 school year for Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8 is $46,599
Extracurricular programs such as extended day childcare, Lower School athletics, and after-school enrichment classes are offered for an additional fee(s), as is an optional lunch program. Families receiving financial aid are also eligible to receive discounted rates for these optional programs.
Each year, families enrolling at Alta Vista are required to sign an enrollment agreement and submit a non-refundable deposit equal to 10% of annual tuition. The deposit is due with the signed agreement and is applied toward the total tuition balance.
Families can select from the following payment options:

Alta Vista Families come from a wide range of financial circumstances, recognizing every situation is unique; approximately 25% of AVS families receive
financial assistance awards ranging from $1,000 to $45,599.
Every family's situation is different. If you feel that your family cannot afford to pay the full cost of tuition, consider applying for financial aid.
AVS partners with Clarity, a third-party service, used by many Bay Area independent schools to receive an objective assessment of each family’s financial need. Financial aid does not play a role in admissions decisions. We strive to meet as much of each family's demonstrated need as our budget will allow.
To get started, please go to the Clarity Application and create an account. The application typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete. The Clarity Application is also mobile-friendly so you can complete it from anywhere. You are also able to save your progress and return at any time.
At the end of the application, there is a $60 fee to submit, and you can share your application with additional schools that accept the Clarity Application for no additional charge. Simply use the dropdown menu in the application to select those schools.
Please email [email protected] if you need an application fee waiver.
Please remember to return to your dashboard after you complete and submit your Clarity Application, as AVS requires you to provide the following tax documentation:
All federal and state tax returns and all supporting schedules will be automatically transferred from the IRS when you complete the verification step of the Clarity application, so you will no longer need to upload those documents manually.
If applicable to your situation:
Any offers of Tuition Assistance are conditional prior to receiving all required materials. 2026 W2s are due to Clarity by February 1, 2027. Please direct any questions about these requirements to Abby Miller Gudich, Director of Enrollment.

No. Alta Vista School requires families to submit a Clarity application each year in order to qualify for financial aid; however, Clarity retains your information from previous applications, streamlining future applications.
While tuition adjustments are made for one year at a time, in general, if a family’s financial circumstances have not changed from year to year, then the rate of tuition assistance should remain consistent and approximately the same percentage of the total annual tuition for that year.
Families may apply in subsequent years if there is a major life change to their financial situation. Please reach out to Abby Miller Gudich, Director of Enrollment Management, if you are an enrolled family and plan to apply for Financial Assistance for the first time. Awards will be made based on demonstrated need and budget availability.
We believe that both parents are responsible for the educational expenses of their children, to the extent that they are financially able. Alta Vista School requires families to submit financial information from all adults living in the students’ household(s). If parents are divorced, separated, have never been married, and/or are remarried, all parents including step-parents must submit financial information. In the case of divorce, we take into account parents’ and step-parents’ financial commitments to their other children.
The expectation is that all custodial parents are working and earning an income. In families with only one working parent, the family is eligible for financial assistance if the parent who is not working outside the home is either caring for non-school age family members or is actively seeking work. For a parent that is self employed or has seasonal work, an assumed salary will be used as a placeholder.
If you are concerned that the amount of aid you've been awarded is insufficient, you may contact Abby Miller Gudich to discuss the steps of the appeals process. You may be asked to submit additional documentation demonstrating why the award will not make it possible for you to enroll your child(ren) at Alta Vista School. While all appeals will be considered and reviewed by the Financial Aid Committee, awards will not necessarily be adjusted.
