Being an Aviator means approaching the world with curiosity, creativity, confidence, and a sense of possibility. It means asking why, wondering what if, and believing there’s more than one way to solve a problem.

At Alta Vista, we create an environment where children can:

And because children are always becoming, we don’t expect a Junior Kindergartener—or any student—to arrive as a fully formed Aviator. We meet each child where they are and help them discover where they can go.

For families, being part of Alta Vista means choosing a community that values deep learning, joyful exploration, progressive independence, and the belief that children can help shape the world around them.  

For the 2027-2028 school year, Alta Vista's main entry points are Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten. In addition, we also welcome several new students to our middle school in 6th grade.  In all other grades, spaces are limited and based on attrition, but we generally welcome a few new students at most grade levels. If you feel that Alta Vista might be a great match for your child, we encourage you to submit an application.  

Alta Vista follows the following age guidelines for Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten

• Junior Kindergarten: Children must turn four years old by September 1, 2027
• Kindergarten: Children must turn five years old by September 1, 2027.

For applicants to 1st grade and above, we generally follow the September 1st guideline, and aim to keep a 12-18 month age range in a given class. However, we expect applicants to apply for their next sequential grade.
