Biography
Erick Lopez Marticorena

GENERAL INFORMATION
Other Information
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Erick always dreamed of building a life in the Bay Area, a dream he now lives daily. When he’s not in the classroom, you’ll likely find him exploring new restaurants, hiking trails, getting lost in a good book, hunting for vintage treasures at thrift shops, or sifting through vinyl at Amoeba Records in search of his next musical gem.
Erick’s journey to education wasn’t a straight path—it was more of a winding trail with a few curious detours. His first dream was to work as a veterinarian, and before starting his teaching career in 2016, he served the feline residents of Southern California as a veterinary assistant at the Riverside Cat Hospital. While the cats may have been grateful, Erick quickly realized that diagnosing tabby troubles wasn’t his true calling. A chance opportunity to do in-home tutoring changed everything. It was here that Erick discovered his passion for working with children—though they occasionally stumped him with questions that made him pause and think, “Wait… do I actually know this?”
This humbling realization sparked a thirst for more knowledge, leading him to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish with a minor in Chicanx Studies from UCLA. He went on to Stanford University, where he earned his Master’s in Education, a California teaching credential, and a BCLAD (Bilingual Authorization) to teach Spanish in public K-12 immersion schools.
Erick’s ultimate dream is to build a school in Tijuana, México. This school would teach financial literacy, advanced mathematics, coding, linguistics, philosophy, multiple world languages and political science with the goal of empowering generations of historically oppressed communities.
