Biography

Satanjeev “Bano” Banerjee is an engineering leader who has built data and machine learning systems at Twitter and Discord. Originally from India, he came to the U.S. for graduate school and earned a PhD from Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science. A lifelong fan of science fiction, he marvels at how much of what he once read has come true, though he’s still waiting for teleportation.

Bano and his wife, Namrata, met in Pittsburgh and spent several years in the Midwest before moving to San Francisco in 2010, where they quickly fell in love with the city’s parks, bookstores, restaurants, record shops, and, yes, even the fog. Their two children, Mitali (class of 2028) and Rishi (class of 2030), were both born here and have been at AVS since Junior Kindergarten. Bano spends most weekends shuttling between Little League games, swim team practice, and San Francisco’s never-ending search for parking.
