Biography
A Bay Area native, prior to joining AVS Katy led a third grade classroom at Convent of the Sacred Heart. Before that she taught at the San Francisco Friends School, while earning her masters degree in Education with the BATTI program. Drawing on her background in dance and her interest in mindfulness, Katy strives to facilitate students’ learning as a multidisciplinary creative process and to infuse joy into learning whenever possible. She is inspired by math’s many interdisciplinary connections, and passionate about breaking down the “myth of the math person.” Above all she believes in helping students to adopt a growth mindset in order to become ambitious and thoughtful problem-solvers. Outside of school, Katy loves to dance, travel, read, cook, and speak Spanish.
