Biography

Prior to joining Alta Vista School, Melanie taught first grade for three years at a private school in the Bay Area. Melanie strives to promote a love for learning in a creative and collaborative classroom. She seeks to spotlight the uniqueness of each student to instill an empathic community. She is passionate about helping students make real world connections while learning. Melanie believes that building relationships with students will create an authentic and inclusive community. 

Melanie graduated from the University of California Santa Cruz with a B.A. in film and education. She is now finishing her M.A. in educational leadership through Mills College. Melanie grew up in the Portola neighborhood and is excited to be a part of the community at Alta Vista School!
