Biography

After teaching 5th-grade Math at AVS, Isla is transitioning to 4th-grade Science. Isla has had a passion for teaching for as long as she can remember. Isla’s approach to teaching embraces hands-on, experiential problem-solving and collaboration with her colleagues to reinforce connections across subjects. Seeing students have ‘aha’ moments and have fun while learning is her greatest joy. Isla is passionate about cultivating a strong sense of community in the classroom for her students. She draws from a wealth of experience ranging from outdoor education programs to teaching animal anatomy labs in college to her career as a lead STEM teacher in both public and private school settings. Outside of school you can find her spending time in nature, building things in the backyard, and making memories with her husband and two mini-scientists.
