Biography
Sarah brings a lifelong love of reading to her work with AVS’s fifth graders, a passion that informed years of teaching second graders at Marin Country Day and Bentley Schools before “graduating” to teach seventh-grade English and history in Bentley’s middle school. There is nothing Sarah loves more than discovering new authors and exploring unknown worlds through the perspectives of curious, quirky, and misunderstood characters. She particularly enjoys working with young writers, delighting in the moments when her students surprise themselves in the creation of narratives that animate their imaginations or in analytical writing that captures the depth and complexity of their critical insights. When she is not reading, Sarah, originally from Texas, enjoys trying to perfect Tex-Mex recipes that do justice to her memory, challenging her husband and sons to indulge her (relatively healthy) passion for card and board games, and losing herself in the wonder of the Bay Area’s natural beauty.
