Biography
Erika founded the AVS third grade in 2012 and currently teaches her passion, science, to both third grade classes. From the beginning, Erika has called AVS her “dream school” for many reasons. These include Alta Vista’s focus on hands-on learning where students discover concepts for themselves, its tight-knit community, emphasis on social justice, and celebration of diversity. Before coming to AVS, Erika taught in public schools in Richmond and Oakland, The Hamlin School, and Lawrence Hall of Science. She originally moved to the Bay Area from Michigan to teach outdoor education. Outside of school, she likes to dance, hike, go birding, explore new places, and read.
