Biography
After working for 16 years as a middle school science teacher and student advocate in urban public schools on the east coast, Toni came to AVS in 2016 to serve as one of the founding middle school teachers. In her role as Dean of Students, Toni focuses on supporting and promoting the social, emotional, and intellectual growth and development of all middle school students. Toni collaborates with teachers, support staff, and parents to create learning and social-emotional support structures for all students and particularly students with diverse learning profiles. Toni is passionate about integrating SEL and diversity and equity into the work she does with AVS students and seeks to promote a kind and inclusive community with strong student advocates and leaders. Toni works closely with students and parents beginning in the spring of 7th grade on navigating the high school admissions journey and offers an individualized approach and support to counseling students through this process.

An educator for over 20 years, she understands the unique academic and emotional support that students need to thrive in the middle school grades and beyond. When not surrounded by the chaos and joy of middle school, Toni is out and about exploring all of the Bay Area’s urban and natural splendor, playing soccer on the weekends, hilking the trails, doing yoga, hanging out with her nephews, or playing with dogs.
