Biography

Approaching education with great purpose and passion, Katie Gibbons has devoted the past twenty years of her career to devising essential tools to unlock students’ intellectual, creative, and emotional potential. To support the whole child, she lays a groundwork of social and emotional awareness and fosters a culture of diversity, equity, and belonging so that the education process is an inclusive, empathic, and ethical experience. 

Katie has served as the Head of Lower School at Alta Vista for more than five years. Previously, she collaborated with former Google executives to establish a new TK-8 micro-school in San Francisco as a founding Head of School for AltSchool, an educational technology company that originated personalized learning software. Under the direction of award-winning educational leaders and pioneers in social-emotional learning, Katie helped to form Synapse School (K-8 independent school in Silicon Valley) as the founding teacher and later as the Associate Head of School.

Committed to creating a safe and innovative learning environment, Katie co-authored the book, "TRUST or DOUBT: Essential Strategies to Co-Create Thriving Teaching Teams."
